Managing Editor

Naavik’s mission is to enable all games industry professionals to master the business of gaming. We currently do this through our consulting business (in which we’ve served 150+ clients to date), Naavik Pro (premium research platform), and our free content efforts (Naavik Digest, Naavik Gaming Podcast, and essays). 

High quality content is foundational to everything we do – from best serving clients and creating outstanding free resources to educating premium subscribers and supporting our brand- and team-building efforts. Naturally, as Naavik grows we need more help managing these efforts.

As Managing Editor, your job will be to increasingly run Naavik’s written content operations and ensure that everything we publish is something to be proud of. You will be surrounded by the industry’s most talented and insightful writers, play a key role in leveling up Naavik’s business, join a passionate and growing core team, and work on a mission that genuinely makes a difference in the industry. You will play an important leadership role in much of what we do.

Naavik has been a globally distributed company since day-one, and this role will be remote and full-time.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Above all, ensure that everything Naavik publishes is something to be proud of. Help us set the industry’s agenda through consistent, high quality content.
• Run the content operations for Naavik Pro – including facilitating game deconstructions, research essays, genre updates, and weekly updates for F2P mobile, financial markets, blockchain gaming, and more to come. This includes locking down topics with writers, facilitating internal feedback, maintaining deadlines, being the lead editor, and managing the publishing process.
• Increasingly oversee our free newsletter, Naavik Digest. This includes managing similar processes as with Naavik Pro.
• Help scale up the production of our free essays – working with writers, feedback-givers, and sponsors to publish the best free deep dives in the industry
• Occasionally step up to help edit high value consulting deliverables
• Partner with the team to brainstorm, strategize, launch, and manage future content plans. We’ll lean on you to spearhead these efforts and help us grow our audience, brand, and business. 
• Be a coach to our writers so that they can constantly level up their skills.
• As Naavik grows, help our content efforts scale. This means helping find and onboard new writers and increasingly building systems and support around you to make our editorial work more efficient and impactful.
• This is more of an editor/operator role, but if you want to also scratch a writing itch we can find an outlet for you to do so. We may also ask you to lightly plug into writing occasionally.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-5+ years of experience in overseeing a multi-person content operation, including editing and organizing (ideally in the games industry)
• A love of games, a curiosity about the businesses behind games, and an open-mindedness to learn about all corners of the industry. Ideally, this candidate already has a solid foundation and can hit the ground running.
• Attention to detail: you’ll be the last line of defense to ensure deadlines are hit and typos are found. More so, you have a passion for words and an ability to wrestle with sentences until they read beautifully.
• Must be unrelentingly supportive of diverse writers, even those who might need more help
• Our writers are truly global, but the internal teammates you’ll most often chat with are located in North America and Europe. We’re flexible, but you’ll need to be comfortable taking occasional calls on those hours. 
• Happy to work as a team player while also boasting an entrepreneurial spirit (creative ideation, a knack for problem solving, and an ability to make processes truly your own)
