Astra Fund is a game fund with a mission to support the creation of better thinking games and bringing them to broad audiences. We work to achieve this through grants, events, genre-based initiatives, and we're moving into publishing. We are part of Carina Initiatives, a philanthropic fund working to send more kids from more communities to the frontiers of science and technology.

Role Overview:

Astra Games is seeking an Operations & Finance Manager to join our team. Astra Games is a new organization and the manager will be integral in building a foundation for future growth and stability.

This is a highly visible and collaborative role reporting directly to the General Manager. The Operations & Finance Manager will assist in ongoing strategic planning and ensure the organization has the tools and support in place to execute its vision.

They will oversee all back office functions and be responsible for budgeting, FP&A, financial modeling, game projections, managing external accounting, contracts, team logistics, HR, and general organizational strategy. You’ll help evaluate new projects from a financial lens, keep an eye on the organization’s financial health, coordinate with our parent company on end of year roll-ups, and support the ins-and-outs of a small but global gaming organization.

We are looking for someone who’s comfortable with context shifting and thinking outside of the box and who’s action oriented in an ambiguous startup environment. This is a role with room to grow while being a key player in the future of a growing organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the General Manager on ongoing budgeting and financial modeling.
  • Track industry-wide trends and game performance across other publishers and the general indie game market.
  • Suggest and implement process improvements and organizational changes.
  • Coordinate with external accountants to produce and monitor monthly financials
  • Assist with quarterly reporting to our parent organization.
  • Act as the point person for all things HR, payroll, and benefit matters.
  • Negotiate and maintain key vendor contracts, NDAs and other legal documents.
  • Comfort with building and working with a variety of financial models.
  • General go-to for all things team operations

Required Experience:

  • 2-5 years experience in related work with a gaming developer or publisher.
  • Advanced in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience building financial models (multi-platform video games a huge plus).
  • Experience overseeing P&Ls in multi-department, multi-team organizations.
  • Great with presentations (and in particular PowerPoint and Google Slides).
  • Exceptional written and oral communication.
  • Highly organized with fantastic attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of finance and accounting.

 

Would Be Nice:

  • Loves data!
  • Degree in finance, accounting, statistics, preferred.
  • Has worked with a variety of legal contracts.
  • Experience researching and understanding global compensation structures.
  • Experience in indie game sales or marketing.
  • Experience understanding game marketing and payback windows.
  • Interest in niche gaming genres and new audiences.

Preferred Location: Remote and/or Northern California. Open to a fully remote US-based position with light quarterly travel.
